With operations in 30 countries, Naturgy (formerly, Gas Natural Fenosa) is a leading multinational group in the energy sector, a pioneer in integrating the gas and electricity sector they head in Latin America and Spain.
The tariff process in the heavily regulated environments of natural gas and electricity distribution led the company to develop the Tariff Simulator in Pyplan. This tool allows Naturgy to follow up the behavior of the key variables that determine the actual tariffs (demand level, demand mix, capex, opex) versus what is happening, and, therefore, to assess the risks and their potential impacts in the next tariff revision process. This tool was deployed in Microsoft Azure Cloud, in connection with data sources located in the different countries involved.
With the success of the Tariff Simulator, Naturgy advanced incorporating to this platform the Demand Planning tool, which incorporates econometric models to make forecasts for the different market segments according to the main drivers (weather, activity, tariff levels). Through this tool in Pyplan, Naturgy follows up the behavior of demand and explains the causes of variations against the budget or previous years. The interaction between automatic connection to historic data sources, powerful interactive dashboards and econometric models, makes the collaborative process of demand planning and control faster and more accurate. This has led some Naturgy companies to evaluate Pyplan as the tool for the entire Financial Planning Process.
